“El diseño óptimo tiene un atractivo emocional y resuelve no sólo la estética, sino que también tiene aspectos inteligentes, funcionales, y sorprendentes.”
For those that follow us by Twitter or Facebook, maybe already know that i am now really into knitting. Two scarfs finished, and thinking about my next project, i was looking, and looking for new ideas when i came up to this nice chair. His creator, Miriam Ortwed, a danish girl who studied design at DKDS (Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design), Copenhaguen,is a multidisplinary designer based in Copenhaguen. She has healthy curiosity for experimentation and new concepts, looking for an quirkiness touch on every project.
“The optimal design has an emotional appeal and solves not only the aesthetic but also holds intelligent, functional and surprising aspects”
The chair was created as a result of a school project called the Textile Furniture.
The large scale knit is made by hand using very large, customized knitting needles.
The yarn is also custom made out of recycled cotton fibers. Usually this material is known as a waste product from the textile industry and is mainly used in stuffing of furniture, meaning on the inside of the upholstery. This was only meant as an experiment for the prototype and the real chair is meant to have the knit in thick, felted wool.Underneath is a welded frame, foam and detachable legs that makes it easier to re-upholster.
It has been exhibited at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2011 and as part of the Sydform 2011 exhibition touring Sweden which recently ended it’s tour at the Code 11 at Bella Center during Copenhagen Design Week.
